Tuesday Giveaways , recipes and Stimulus checks

Are you staying warm friends?I do hope so.The fireplace is working wonders this morning.What are your thoughts on the $1,000.00 Stimulus package for families next month? My thought is that it is tax time already now.A lot of people will be getting a little help at this time already,and with stimulus checks mainly going to these same anyway,WHY DO IT NOW????In other words,say a family of 4 is getting a check for several thousand dollars already,if that don't help at this time just adding a little to it won't either.Save the stimulus package let's say,for like mid summer when no one is getting a little extra income...Just does not make sense to me..Well spending millions and millions of dollars on the inauguration yesterday made no sence to me either.I am all for celebrating our new president ,but for a nation to be in the shape we are now and spending like that!WAY OVERBOARD when we are in a recession!Heck just the money blew yesterday in Washington could have funded a HUGE part of that stimulus package,,,
Anyway........I am adding a few homemade recipes below.Try them sometime and let me know how they worked out and as usual giveaways around bloggvile will be added at bottom throughout the day as i can add them.Got too get some cleaning done and clothes washed hopefully today ,good lord's will.My brother dang near took his hand off the other day with a skill saw redoing my mom's bathroom.It jumped out and went through his land hand.Tearing the meat and a big peice of bone was destoyed as well.Had to have reconstructive surgery just so he would not loose all use of hand.He work's with his hands so that would not be good at all.Say a prayer for him if you would ,he is in a lot of pain with it,swelled very bad.Don't forget to pray for our new president.

If you have not already head over to my SIMPLY SOUTHERN-giveaway post and get entered in.YOU CAN COME BACK DAILY AND GAIN SEVERAL NEW ENTRIES.some have emailed confused on this.Each day you twitter or blog it,leave me a comment and u are entered again.Each time you make a comment on any post,it is a new entry,just mention ''extra entry'' or something close...
A new item will be added today as well.. ;)

Have a great day and may God bless us all..

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Old Fashion Red Velvet Cake~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ingredients: Frosting:
1-1/2 cups milk
5 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1-1/2 cups granulated sugar
1-1/2 cups butter, softened (or stick margarine, but no diet)
1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Cake:
1 teaspoon white vinegar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
1-1/2 cups granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons unsweetened cocoa
4 tablespoons red food coloring
1 cup buttermilk
2 1/4 cups sifted cake flour
1 teaspoon vanilla
To begin frosting: Place milk in saucepan and slowly whisk in flour. Stir over medium heat until quite thick. Chill until cold. Do this step first and prepare cake while it chills.
To make cake: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans; set aside. In a small bowl, mix vinegar and baking soda, set aside. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to beat shortening, sugar, eggs and salt until fluffy. In a separate small bowl, mix cocoa and red food coloring; then add to shortening mixture and mix thoroughly. Add buttermilk alternately with cake flour; beat. Gently mix in the vanilla and reserved vinegar mixture. Pour batter into prepared cake pans. Bake 30 minutes, until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Remove from oven, cool on cake racks.
To finish frosting: Use an electric mixer to beat the sugar, butter and vanilla until very light, 5 to 10 minutes. Add the cooled flour- milk mixture. When cake layers are cool, split each layer horizontally. Place one split layer on a plate and frost with 1/4- to 1/2-inch frosting. Top with second cake layer; repeat frosting. Top with third layer, and repeat frosting. Add top layer; frost side of cake first, then frost top with remaining frosting.
Do your Kids Play Outside?Giveaway growing!
Parents Urged to Let Children Play Outside
Morning readers!
I do hope you are all entering my giveaway!Details and link are on the right of page..Please take a moment to give me your thoughts on this article as well.I do appreciate it.How do you feel about your kids being outdoors?Are they allowed too?Or is there even any ''outdoors'' where you live that is safe?That is a problem that faces a lot of children now.There is no safe play area to learn in,and the psycho predators that linger there to hurt children.Not a lot of families live in rural areas where kids are actually allowed to ''run free'' anymore.I am lucky i do live in the country.The kids are allowed to have run of the yard and billy is adventuring farther and farther out now at 6.He and kolby(3&1/2) loves climbing trees,digging holes,riding stick horses,jumping off small hills,just being boys.I do not bother trying to drees them up each day,they have more play clothes than anything.They have ''yard toys'' on one end of the yard ,that is their area.Might call it their gathering space.Everything goes here from bikes to sticks,(not meaning that they stay there.lol..)The yard certainly isn't manicured,just kid friendly and fun..What yard's use to be.
They enjoy watching wildlife,feeding pets,walking,and making mud pies. ;)
Here is a post i found this morning i wanted to share.Please leave me your thoughts on this.good and bad..remember if you mention in your comments about my giveaway you are entered again!Just make sure you go to original post to get the rules!!!!The giveaway box is growing so comment away!Here is the link to my giveaway.
American children are spending more and more of their leisure time indoors -- watching TV, playing video games and chatting with friends on line. That concerns many child development experts and others who would rather encourage them to be outside hiking, climbing trees, riding bikes and watching birds. They want to end children's alienation from nature, and what they believe are the adverse effects on child development. "I grew up in a pretty large family, having six older brothers and sisters. All I did was play outside," says Olympic gold medal soccer player Abby Wambach. "My parents helped out in that arena. They locked the door on us; they told us you couldn't come back until dinnertime. So, I pretty much spent my life outdoors."Even if playing outside doesn't lead to a gold medal, Darell Hammond says it is important for a child's physical and mental development."Playing outside helps release endorphins in your body that motivate you," he says. "It gives you sensory experiences around touch, smell and sight."Hammond is Co-Founder of KaBoom!, a non-profit that is working to build a playground within walking distance of every child in America."When walking through the woods, it actually helps your balance because it's not like walking on a sidewalk that may be 100 percent flat." Walking across "different types of land increases your heart rate," he says. When children play in nature, whether it's in a wooded park or a playground, Hammond says they tend to invent their own games and are more likely to play collectively. "When kids get outside, their activity runs wild."Unfortunately, he says, children don't play outside today as often as they did three decades ago, because "parents are busier; kids are more over scheduled." Children are spending more time after school in highly structured activities, playing organized sports or attending music and art classes. During school vacations, they are usually busy at summer camp.
http://www.voanews.com/english/AmericanLife/2007-05-17-voa29.cfm?
Author Richard Louv says playing outside is the answer to childhood obesity.Musician Chuck Leavell wants children to appreciate nature Writer and outdoor advocate Richard Louv says when children have free time at home, they are more likely to stay inside, because there might not be a nearby park or even a sidewalk."Even when you have a sidewalk, for example, there is more and more traffic. That's a legitimate fear," he says. In recent decades, Louv notes, the fear that a stranger will abduct or harm a child has accelerated greatly in the United States and other countries.In his book, Last Child In The Woods, Louv says children's alienation from nature causes what he calls "nature deficit disorder," although he is careful to point out that "nature deficit disorder is not a medical diagnosis. "Perhaps it should, but it is not. It's a societal problem," he says. "It's the society that gets in the way of kids going outside and playing in nature."Louv says playing outside is the answer to America's child obesity problem as well as many other childhood disorders. "For example, studies of Attention Deficit Disorder being done in the University of Illinois show that kids with those symptoms, the symptoms get much better with just a little bit of contact with nature in kids as young as 5 years old," he says.Experiencing nature through outdoor play is also the best school for tomorrow's environmentalists, according to musician Chuck Leavell, author of the children's book, Tree Farmer. "It you ask little Johnny where the guitar comes from, he's likely to tell you from the music store," he says. "In fact the guitar comes from a resource of wood. So we want to get these young minds thinking about nature, about how bio-diversity works together. You want to plant this seed and you want to let this see grow and flourish."To get children outdoors, and back to nature, Richard Louv advocates a comprehensive approach. "Parents, grandparents, aunts,uncles and other adults, we need to take kids outdoors ourselves," he says.
Well i broke down and went to Dr. last night finally.We did chest xrays and a breathing treatment.The pneumonia i feared was not there,nor fluid in the lungs but did have wheezing and irritation.He prescribed zpac and some steroids to bring down the swelling and inflammation.Then gave me a slip for 2 days off.I'm like Doc,I am already at home..lol...(i work part time at home also!) .He said i am not to do nothing at all for 2 days ..either in the bed or setting around.Drink lots of fluids and eat as good as i can.If no better by Monday i am to go back to my dr.WELL....That gives me a excuse to sit in here and type,type,type.. ;)
I laugh about it but i am having some serious issues with my chest,breathing,esophagus, etc...Not sure what's wrong but it don't feel good.
Rain moving back in today and cooler weather starts tomorrow night.Suppose to be the coldest days we have had yet by the end of the week.They are venturing to say ,a very small possibility of snow by next Friday!We shall see that would be a rarity here in south central Alabama.
Don't let your guard down on the economy people.We here in America have a tendency to become sliders after we hear something over and over...Let's watch it close and be careful what you spend on.Please...Stay out of debt as much as you can and if you don't HAVE to have it..well maybe it can wait till a better time..If you do have a little extra(you will not need for a while) there are some good investments out there.A lot of stocks are very low right now.With some good advise and wise decisions,you may make some good returns in the long run!We had Lot's of new millionaires come out of the depression for this very reason..But at the same time a lot of people went broke..SO WISE AND PRAYERFUL DECISIONS...OK????
I know you are looking for contest /giveaways so here you go.
AND PLEASE....i know by the traffic you are coming by ,reading and entering the contest.Please take time to say hello.The more comments,the bigger the prizes in coming months.Sponsors look at this.I take time to comment on the blogs i visit.Do that for me please.Some of these giveaways i post,i am not entering,i post them for you,hoping you may want to enter and to introduce you to new blogs.So please take just a moment to say hi!!!!It is quick i promise and i will return the favor to you...If you have a giveaway,let me know ..i will gladly add ....
Also i want to change the look..any ideas??
have a great day!!!!
Want to Enter Some Blogger Giveaway's?
It's Monday readers,
School starts back again tomorrow,i know most are glad.lol.I still have the 16 in school here at home.Billy's in 1st grade but his mom takes care of him.Stormy weather moving back in tomorrow for us here in south central Alabama with colder air coming in behind it.We have been in the 70's for most of December so only sporadic cold spells do we see.My hubby would love snow but that as well is a rarity.He is Michigan born,been here about 13 years.He loves the winter,i love spring..Already starting to plan our garden this year.I want it larger and i learned a few more things last year i will not make the mistake of this year.Plant farther apart,plant all greens later on,more beans,prepare for the deer early on,a fence around sweet potato's..lots of goodies..lol...I also am planning o get a LARGE canner.I will be canning more veggies and meats.Anyone with some ides on that i welcome.I have not tried canning meats and fish..so,,,,,,,i am all open...I know this will help save money and time for my family later on.I think if we all prepare for a hard year,we will be much better off..Then if by chance all get better economically quicker,we are good to go anyway and have saved some money and learned some new things...I will also make more jams and jellies.I have collected a large amount of jars and pick them up every chance i get. A lot of people have them around that will just give them to you as well i also find them at thrift stores and christian mission shops..Make sure you sign up for the contest and giveaways i post.They are fun and you can win some very useful things for you and your family!Leave me a comment let me know you came by.When my comments start growing i will be having my own giveaways for my readers as well..SO COMMENT AWAY!
SIMPLY SOUTHERN
Saturday Happenings =Contest's and giveaways in blogland!
Good morning friends,
It is cold this morning here in south alabama,the fire is blazing in the front and kerosene heater in the kitchen..All is well..;)I have 2 -3 year old's asleep on their ''pallet'' in the living room and little charlize mae is asleep in the crib next to them.As my readers know little kolby mainly stays with us ,this is home to him,and i was watching charlie mae where julie could go with darrell to work last night.They were playing in town this weekend,his band,50 miles north.Then at 9 pm ,Adam brings little adam,3,(neighbors)to stay because his mom has gotten drunk and acting crazy in front of him.Of course the little fellow does not need to see that if at all possible so of course he could stay.All 3 got asleep around midnight.Charlie was up at 6 and now went back to sleep..So nannabee has a little while to jump on here before they all wake again.lol..Hope your weekend goes well.Christmas is almost upon us again.A lot of people are getting stressed out this year.My wish for you is don't!Christmas is for remembering an act of love,Jesus, and i think,making us try and act the same.I don't mean we literally go die for people,jesus did that,but we can show others love and caring in our ways.Donate if you can to someone in need,volunteer if you have the free time,take a meal to an elderly or sick person,visit nursing home and hospitals.clean someones home for free,cook them a meal,babysit a night,Visit childrens hosp's and take a few gifts and smiles to the children there.Place food or gfts on someones door and hide.watch from afar..any and all these will give you a feeling inside nothing else will do..and above all take time to pray for others as well as our nation and leaders,We need this badly,and always be thankful to god for all he has done,guidance of the holy spirit and for jesus,who showed us the ultimate act of selfless love.
Merry Christmas all!! god bless
QuicKutz is sponsoring an awesome contest over at
vanillajoy-you can win a Silhouette Digital Craft Cutter by QuicKutz and let me tell you i want this!!!! i need one badly,kind of hard to buy something for myself with all the young babies i have in my immediate family!kids must come first,so i would jump and scream for joy to win this...i have been wanting to open an etsy store and this would enable me to do it to help with finances as well as be able to do something i enjoy again!!!
Here are some of my favorite features about the Silhouette Digital Craft Cutter:
* You can cut your design any size between 1/4″ and 8 ” tall and up to 39″ long. That’s a pretty exciting range of possible sizes!
* Because the Silhouette hooks straight up to your computer, you have access to all True Type fonts - your font possibilities are endless and FREE. I know I probably have hundreds of fonts, and that much freedom and selection in a digital craft cutter is pretty darn awesome.
* Learning how to set up and use the Silhouette is easy - I felt comfortable with the program almost right away.
* All your files/designs are stored on the computer in one place, so they’re easy to access and you don’t have to think about storage.
* You can download designs from the QuicKutz website straight to your computer, so instant gratification! No waiting in line or having to go out in the snow to get a new design.
* The Silhouette also cuts adhesive vinyl, and with an 8″ maximum height, a 39″ maximum length, and all of the fantastic QuicKutz designs, you can do some pretty fancy home decor stuff all on your own. The Quickutz vinyl comes in lots of bright and beautiful colors too!
* You can create your own designs and cut them out. This is probably one of the coolest features of the Silhouette, especially if you’re a talented artist. You can create and cut your own designs - a potential Etsy business!
ends Saturday, December 13, 11:59 pm PST==today!!!!she has other contest on site as well.go check it out!
Tuesday's Ramblings /Contest around Blogville!
Ok enough already on the politics!This has totally went insane this year.Back to back commercials of everybody putting everyone else through the grinder.Makes me realize that no matter who we get,they are probably nuts!
I am glad to see the gas prices going down,maybe groceries will follow,but that is still a long way from beginning to fix this mess the whole world it seems is in,But it is a little positive note and i think we all needed that.Just don't fool your selves into thinking this is ending,no ,far from it i am afraid.But it is a little break maybe where we can all take a moment to reevaluate what we can do different.There is way's to save money.We must all begin to live within our mean's.What does it matter if we have a bigger house than the neighbors if we are having to take heart medicine to survive the stress it is causing worrying where we are going to continue getting the money to afford it?What does it matter if little Johnny and Suzie have top brand expensive clothing if you had to take a credit card to buy them with?What are we really teaching them?Come on people this is a HUGE wake up call for all of us.
BY THE WAY...HAPPY 25TH BIRTHDAY RITA...LOVE YOU...
Thanks for stopping by!Please leave me a comment ,i'll return the visit .
hello readers and thanks for dropping by!
I love to find out new things,large and small..I saw this tonight and found it interesting...
Crows Never Forget
Ever wonder about avian (bird) intelligence? Different birds are smart in different ways. Some birds are really good at recognizing danger or food sources, and remembering them. The Cornell Lab of Ornithology's resident crow expert, Kevin McGowan is quoted in this New York Times article entitled Friend or Foe? Crows Never Forget a Face, It Seems Crows remember him and either follow him because they remember he gave them food or protest his presence with alarm calls because they remember he climbed their tree and looked into their nest; maybe even measured and recorded other information about their nestlings.
