Florida Gov. Charlie Crist salvaged a state-run crisis pregnancy program this week.
Jan. 29, 2009 -- Florida Gov. Charlie Crist saved a state-run crisis pregnancy program this week by vetoing spending cuts that were a part of a $1.2 billion budget cut. His decision was announced at a news conference Tuesday.
The action came after intensive lobbying by several pro-life legislators who were concerned about major cuts to the $2 million budget of the Florida Pregnancy Support Services Program's (FPSSP). While the legislators were able to save part of the program's money, Crist's line-item veto had the effect of restoring all of its original funding.
"The governor did veto the reduction ... because he feels it is important to continue to provide support for women facing these decisions," said Sterling Ivey, spokesman for Gov. Crist. "The governor also believes it is important to protect and safeguard the health care of those in most need of health services."
The man behind the scenes lobbying for the FPSSP's survival was freshman representative Scott Plakon, who had run on a pro-life platform. Chris Dorworth, a fellow lawmaker of Plakon's who also lobbied for the program, admired Plakon's commitment to the issue.
"The neat thing for me was to watch somebody get elected for whom social issues were of utmost importance, and the very first week he does something so impactful," Dorworth said. "Hundreds of lives will be saved and babies will be born that would not have been."
While Dorworth partially credits Plakon for keeping the crisis pregnancy program alive, Plakon sees his own influence in the bigger picture as limited. He expressed immense gratitude for the governor's decision in addition to the help of others.
"This is unusual for this to happen this way," Plakon acknowledged. "I appreciate the effort and support that chairman Dean Cannon and so many other House leaders put forth in making sure that innocent human life was protected in Florida."
Susan Grimsley, executive director of the Florida Pregnancy Care Network which administers the FPSSP, said the governor's actions, those who supported his veto, and Plakon's "tireless work," all worked together for the good. "We are thrilled," Grimsley said, "and consider this nothing short of a miracle. It is heartening to know that this program, which provides vital assistance to needy pregnant women, will continue to serve this vulnerable population."
The counseling and support services of the FPSSP solely promote and encourage childbirth.
Dorworth said one reason some Florida lawmakers wanted to abolish the program was partially due to a state senator incorrectly describing the FPSSP to other members as "an abstinence program." "It was in that context of-‘We're firing teachers, yet we're going to continue to finance some abstinence program,'" that lawmakers decided to cut the FPSSP budget in half, which would've effectively shut it down, Dorworth said.
Among all U.S. states, Florida's state-run crisis pregnancy program is fairly unique. If the FPSSP had been abolished, it would've shut down invaluable services to roughly 15,000 would-be mothers a year, Plakon said.
If a young woman is pregnant, wavering and scared, "if [she has] concerns about what the future holds, worried about what [her] parents are going to think, [about her] work situation-having someone to talk to can make the difference, because sometimes they don't have anyone they can call for advice," Dorworth said.
He added: "At the end of the day, you're left to represent your own values and your constituents and that comes above all else."

Obama , tax dollars and Abortion ! This is Too much
Well in September Obama said he would do it and no one listened....Here it is and it is done with congress not stoppng it.Aren't we just proud..Not only do we slaughter babies here ,now we fund it with OUR TAX DOLLARS overseas .I don't know about you but I DO NOT want one penny i earn,or my family,to go towards killing a baby!!!!ADOPTION PEOPLE..NOT KILLING.I know sometimes a mothers health is at risk and rape.This is different,,,
But to do it just because you didn't do enough to prevent an unwanted pregnancy???NO....you may can justify that WITH YOUR MONEY,but not mine..This is wrong and we as a nation are going to pay with a lot of wrath from the father above for this..Just wait and see and pray that the wrath is not dropped on you...
And don't tell me i don't understand.I DO...i have a grandson in Heaven right now that would be 2 years old.But he was killed by abortion.I would have gladly raised him...he would have got hugs and loved all the time.He would have laughed and cried.He would have known his brothers and sister,His name is September.He was never given those chances..he was not given a choice.His mom,my daughter,made those choices for him..Because it was the easiest way...I love my daughter,always will..we are still close,even after this.But one day she will have to explain to her babies about a little boy named September,,Will they understand???I am so afraid they will not...Mom's you need to remember this.You can make the baby go away..but that act will remain.Sooner or later the decision will come back to you.Are you prepared for that time? My daughter is now wanting to be a sunday school teacher,loves kids,always has.That was not the reason for the abortion.She thought it was best because of a bad choice of whom she breed with.He was violent and threating as soon as he found out she was pregnant...So yes.decisions are hard..

President Obama didn't do it symbolically on the anniversary Thursday of the Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion in the United States.
But today, he signed an executive order ending the ban on federal funds for international groups that promote or perform abortions.
The move reverses the rule put in place by the Bush administration. Republican and Democratic presidents have been changing the rule like a ping-pong ball.
Abortion rights groups, which supported Obama during the campaign with money and volunteers, have been pushing for the change in the policy, which bars US taxpayer money from going to international family planning groups that either offer abortions or provide information, counseling, or referrals about abortion.
Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, hailed the move.
“President Obama’s action today reinforces why elections matter and how new leadership can end divisive policies that harm women,” Keenan said in a statement . “Reversing this Bush-era policy means that the world’s poorest women may now have access to vital health services, from prenatal care to contraception. The president’s action today reflects the public’s call for a focus on commonsense, common-ground solutions that make a difference in the lives of women and their families.”
Senator John F. Kerry, the new chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, also applauded the change.
“I am glad that President Obama has moved so swiftly to lift the Global Gag Rule which has too long handcuffed our ability to provide aid around the world. Today's announcement is a very powerful signal to our neighbors around the world that the United States is once again back in the business of good public policy and ideology no longer blunts our ability to save lives around the globe," Kerry said in a statement.
“For too long, the Mexico City policy isolated the United States and limited our leadership. By tying the hands of global health providers, ideology trumped our capacity to provide effective family planning services and limited the scope of partners we could work with in the international community. It hindered the ability of NGOs to halt the spread of HIV/AIDS and denied contraceptives to families in the world’s poorest countries.”
UPDATE: This evening, the White House did issue a statement from Obama:
“It is clear that the provisions of the Mexico City Policy are unnecessarily broad and unwarranted under current law, and for the past eight years, they have undermined efforts to promote safe and effective voluntary family planning in developing countries. For these reasons, it is right for us to rescind this policy and restore critical efforts to protect and empower women and promote global economic development.
“For too long, international family planning assistance has been used as a political wedge issue, the subject of a back and forth debate that has served only to divide us. I have no desire to continue this stale and fruitless debate.
“It is time that we end the politicization of this issue. In the coming weeks, my Administration will initiate a fresh conversation on family planning, working to find areas of common ground to best meet the needs of women and families at home and around the world.
“I have directed my staff to reach out to those on all sides of this issue to achieve the goal of reducing unintended pregnancies. They will also work to promote safe motherhood, reduce maternal and infant mortality rates and increase educational and economic opportunities for women and girls.
“In addition, I look forward to working with Congress to restore U.S. financial support for the U.N. Population Fund. By resuming funding to UNFPA, the U.S. will be joining 180 other donor nations working collaboratively to reduce poverty, improve the health of women and children, prevent HIV/AIDS and provide family planning assistance to women in 154 countries.”

I will say before i start,,I am sure this blog will get me flagged again(the other one was cleared-no spam here).Obama supporters flagged me..But i just have to..If you can't stand for what we believe in ,we are in serious trouble.If we can not speak our thoughts,Then why have people died through the years to protect our freedoms?And thank you to each man and woman fighting for us daily!!!God bless you all...
Did you watch the debate???Oh i hope so...Obama just admitted to agreeing with roe vs. wade on national TV!!!!It is officially out now.McCain also brought to attention , the infants who survived abortion ,that the nurse brought before the senate there begging for medical attention for these babies,HE DENIED IT!!!!!!! He explained it away as to that the Dr's and all involved already had laws in place to take care of such an event so he denied..More babies DIED!!!!this is murder people...don't matter how you look at it.These babies were born alive,MEANING THEY WERE A BABY!!!!We are suppose to take care of children ,not vote someone to be our president who would let babies die,AFTER BEING BORN...this should even curl the stomachs of pro choicers...This is wrong.....People is this honestly the man you want to run our country???IS IT REALLY????This is America....We have morals,statute,We allow this type of behavior and we are lower than the animal kingdom...We Must protect the babies.If we don't,who will.Those babies were some one's LIVE daughter,son,nephew,niece,grandchild or cousin...Don't you care???????

Senator McCain believes that ethanol is a product that would not exist if Congress hadn’t created an artificial market for it. Yet due to agricultural subsidies and ethanol producer subsidies, it is very big business, and tens of billions of dollars that have enriched a handful of corporate interests.
The American public has to pay a lot of money, not only in taxes, but at the pump to buy all these negative impacts to the national economy, the country’s energy supply, the environment, and public health. The total cost of ethanol to the consumer is about $3.00 per gallon. And the Highway Trust Fund is deprived of over $1 billion dollars per year to the ethanol producers.
Finally, Senator McCain believes ethanol subsidies have diverted corn toward biofuels and away from its use as food. Instead of subsidizing corn-based ethanol, we should allow the market to operate so that biofuels made from sources outside the food chain, such as from cellulose, reach commercial viability more quickly.

Did you see the debate??NO...say it ain't so ,Joe!!! lol...If you missed it, you missed the debate of the century.A lot of people had already deemed Mrs.Sarah a failure before she ever hit the stage and boy did they underestimate her.She took the stage and made it her living room with all of us as her guest!I almost expected her to offer cookies..She rules people...I don't care what affiliation you are for,republican or democrat..She is good, and she makes you believe she means every word she says ..I think she does.I think she truly loves America and it's people.I think she loves her job and loves God.This is truly a LADY whom is beautiful inside and out.A Mom who puts family above everything,and still is a success at her job.I am sure the feminist hate her,lol..I think she is more of a Lady than any i have saw in charge in a very long time.And hats off to her for not aborting ''her down syndrome problem''!Most women now abort their precious babies when they find this out and help the abortionist get richer and richer.But not Gov. Palin.And did you see him last night? Look people,it is like this.Whether you wish to acknowledge it or not.We HAVE to bring back respect,morals ,values and God or we are DONE...I am afraid a lot of wrath is coming our way if not.A door has been shown,with the names of McCain/Palin on it.This is our chance,,Open it and allow them to CHANGE the America we love into what it was suppose to be.A nation that stood for democracy,freedom,faith,respect and Godly morals.It was founded on that.It thrived on that.The generation coming now has not gotten to see much of that.And look at the shape we are in.I agree that we should not be judgemental on anyone,we respect each others way of life.But it does not mean that we have to change to meet that.I believe gay relationships should be able to be with each other any time they want to be,if they want to live together and be in love and happy,GREAT.but that does not mean that i think our marriage meaning in this country of a marriage being between a man and a woman should change.
It is great to see all the different nationalities we have in America,But that does not mean Americans should have to learn a new language to understand them.They came to America looking for our freedoms,LEARN to speak Americas language,ENGLISH!!!!
I am a firm believer that if you want to come to America ,come on,BUT do it LEGALLY!!!!Go through the system and become Americans,not ALIENS....if you don't want to be American ,,,GO HOME!!!! you LEFT FOR A REASON SO WHY DO YOU WANT US TO BE LIKE WHERE U CAME FROM????
And ladies if you don't want to have a baby,make your CHOICE..DON'T HAVE SEX!!!!that was your choice.I do realize women are raped(have been myself,so i do understand!)
and sometimes become pregnant.under those circumstances,it hurts,it is hard,but why would you want to do to that baby the same thing that was done to you?Give it no choice...If you really do not want the baby ,there are lots of good men and women who would love to have a family but due to reasons beyond their control,they can't.Do you realize how angry you make these people?They want to have so badly what you destroy,PAINFULLY i may add...Give the baby to them!Give it a choice...to live and be able to have hugs and good night kisses,to grow and laugh and make friends...maybe even be your friend one day!!! ;)
If you want an abortion,fine..BUT don't expect us pro lifers to sit by and not try to give that baby a choice too...You take away from another to get what you want!It is wrong,no other way to look at it.It is taking the life of a baby.........

The Debate,Wall Street -Contest=Giveaways

How many are going to watch the debate tonight? I hope you do.This is such a crucial time to be deciding our next president.He will have such a mess to fix i am afraid.I heard a comment last night on the news,said people were very leery of wall street.The financial guru whom was speaking ,said ''no fear''. the old wall street we had is no more!Is that a good thing?Off the top of my head i would say ...YES! It is sad that we came to point that wall street could almost destroy us from within(with help of course) with predictions.....wall street was looking like an auction house for slaughter,only it wasn't beef being led in,it is our jobs,money,gas and futures...sad,sad...
Today, the moose-hunting mom is the most talked-about woman in the world,That would be Sarah Palin.Great to see a ''LADY'' being talked about ..;) I personally like the lady.I think she DOES have the capabilities to run the white house if needed.There is something about her that reminds me of princess Diana.We didn't all know her to begin with ,BUT the whole world fell in love with her within 10 years and i think Mrs. Sarah has the capabilities to make us all fall in love with her as well.She has good morals and values.She may not be the best speaker we have ever heard or best debater,but God knows we have had our share of them already and look at the mess we are in.So on that note i think we need some GOOD people in the white house and then some GOOD CONGRESSMEN (or ladies) to back them up.You know i can't help but look at what they stand for more than what they want.And i am sorry,but anyone who stands up and says that abortion should be ever woman's choice,IS NOT WHITE HOUSE MATERIAL ANYMORE...Look at it this way...If our leaders can not TRY to protect an innocent child,who has known no wrong,HOW CAN I DEPEND ON THEM TO Help ME? you can't.I know i stir a can of beans...But i would like to note this before i end my rambling today,just something to think about.

I have told my son over and over,GOD ALWAYS GIVES A GOOD CHOICE,makes it fair..And he has.In the form of a Baby toting Momma from Alaska..

I hope you do.This is such a crucial time to be deciding our next president.He will have such a mess to fix i am afraid.I heard a comment last night on the news,said people were very leery of wall street.The financial guru whom was speaking ,said ''no fear''. the old wall street we had is no more!Is that a good thing?Off the top of my head i would say ...YES! It is sad that we came to point that wall street could almost destroy us from within(with help of course) with predictions.....wall street was looking like an auction house for slaughter,only it wasn't beef being led in,it is our jobs,money,gas and futures...sad,sad...
Today, the moose-hunting mom is the most talked-about woman in the world,That would be Sarah Palin.Great to see a ''LADY'' being talked about ..;) I personally like the lady.I think she DOES have the capabilities to run the white house if needed.There is something about her that reminds me of princess Diana.We didn't all know her to begin with ,BUT the whole world fell in love with her within 10 years and i think Mrs. Sarah has the capabilities to make us all fall in love with her as well.She has good morals and values.She may not be the best speaker we have ever heard or best debater,but God knows we have had our share of them already and look at the mess we are in.So on that note i think we need some GOOD people in the white house and then some GOOD CONGRESSMEN (or ladies) to back them up.You know i can't help but look at what they stand for more than what they want.And i am sorry,but anyone who stands up and says that abortion should be ever woman's choice,IS NOT WHITE HOUSE MATERIAL ANYMORE...Look at it this way...If our leaders can not TRY to protect an innocent child,who has known no wrong,HOW CAN I DEPEND ON THEM TO Help ME? you can't.I know i stir a can of beans...But i would like to note this before i end my rambling today,just something to think about.

You may not be able to stand on street corners,may not even know much about abortion,you may say i don't agree with it but it is their choice.But you know what?If you willingly vote someone in to run our country who says it is OK...You have agreed with them,and allowed another baby to be killed..Someone's grandchild,sister,brother,aunt,uncle,cousin,son or daughter.Think about that when you go to vote.I had this decision to make ,and for a while it was not easy this year.The country is in such distress right now,i am republican mentally,but if i know a democrat would lead better and have the morals our forefathers did i would vote for them.There were several MEN who were ''vice president possibilities'' for McCain,that in no way could i vote for them.Had they been chosen i would have had to write in a candidate..That really tore at me.The thought that i would have no say in it,broke my heart.But ALAS...Someone took that position that none ,mostly anyway,saw coming!After checking her out,i now can vote ,have a say,and believe in my heart i have done the right thing. I have told my son over and over,GOD ALWAYS GIVES A GOOD CHOICE,makes it fair..And he has.In the form of a Baby toting Momma from Alaska..
